Winnipeg Southwood and Manitoba University Campus
The Learning City

The proposal aims at the formation of a new urban community dedicated to a culture of learning – and joyful living. The community consists of four distinct parts: the Southwood sustainable housing scheme, the University of Manitoba’s campus, the university park with its sport facilities and the university’s agricultural test fields.

These parts shall form both individual spatial experiences and a strong integrated identity. The overall identity is derived from a new emphasis on the existing potential – such as the position next to the beautiful Red River or the architectural heritage of the campus and typological features – such as the looping Learning Trail or Southwood’s mixed use blocks with their communal open spaces and functions.
